Eseries steering fault
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Ford Eseries van experienced a steering issue where the steering became difficult, and the wheel vibrated, particularly at lower speeds. Initially suspected to be an alignment problem, it was later suggested that a faulty steering angle sensor could be the cause. After a workshop diagnosis confirmed a defective sensor with faulty coding, the sensor was repaired and recalibrated, resolving the steering problem.

Thanks, that's helpful. Traction control interventions don't seem to happen much. Could it just be the coding of the steering angle sensor, so the system thinks the alignment is completely off?

Yep, faulty coding can trigger these problems. I'd have the sensor checked at a workshop. They can read out errors and measure the steering angle with respect to the steering wheel. I suspect your sensor has failed.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a workshop, and they diagnosed a defective steering angle sensor. Apparently, its coding was faulty. The repair, including recalibration, cost 195€. The steering issue is now resolved.

Sounds like the steering angle sensor could be it. I had similar symptoms - increased steering effort, weird vibrations - with my old Opel Astra after I hit a curb. Do you experience a lot of interventions by the traction control?
