Espace ABS lamp illuminated

Hi, I'm experiencing an unsettling issue with my 2006 Renault Espace, gasoline engine. The ABS lamp is constantly illuminated, indicating a failure within the ABS system. A diagnostic scan revealed a fault with the lateral acceleration sensor. Given the mileage of 241713 km, I suspect the affected control unit is defective. Has anyone encountered a similar issue? I'm concerned about vehicle stability and safety warnings.

Hey there! I drive an Espace as well, and your problem sounds eerily familiar to what I experienced a while back. When cornering, the car felt like it was second-guessing itself, almost like a nervous passenger grabbing the steering wheel. Did you notice anything similar? Have you checked the steering angle sensor as well?

Thanks for the quick response! The 'nervous passenger' analogy is spot on! I haven't specifically checked the steering angle sensor yet, but the diagnostic scan focused on the lateral acceleration sensor. Could a faulty steering angle sensor trigger similar symptoms, or is it more likely the lateral sensor as indicated by the initial scan?

While the steering angle sensor can cause ABS/ESP issues, your description and the error code strongly suggest the lateral acceleration sensor is the primary culprit. In my case, replacing the faulty control unit was the only fix. Given the potential cost and complexity, I'd recommend consulting a trusted workshop for a professional diagnosis and repair. I ended up paying close to 1000€ for parts and labor.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience! It's incredibly helpful to know I'm not alone in facing this issue. Based on your advice, I'll schedule an appointment with my local garage for a thorough inspection and repair. Knowing the potential cost beforehand helps me prepare. Appreciate the assistance!
