Espace crankshaft sensor issue

Hey, I'm stressed. My 2023 Renault Espace hybrid is acting up. The check engine light is on, and it feels like it's lost power. It's super sluggish, and I'm burning way more fuel than usual after 89231 km. Could it be the crankshaft position sensor? I've heard that can cause issues with engine synchronization.

Hmm, a check engine light and poor performance on a hybrid Espace could point to a few things. Has there been any recent work done on the car? Or any unusual noises? It could be a timing chain issue, which might throw off the crankshaft to camshaft reference value. But, it could also be something simpler, like a faulty cam sensor. What codes is the check engine light throwing?

No recent work, and no weird noises that I've noticed. I don't have the fault codes to hand, unfortunately. You mentioned the crankshaft to camshaft reference value – is that definitely linked to the crankshaft sensor or the timing? I'm trying to figure out if it's something I can look at myself or if it definitely needs a mechanic.

Okay, without the fault codes, it's tough to say for sure. But the crankshaft to camshaft reference issue on your Renault Espace can be caused by a defective crankshaft sensor. It's also possible it's related to the timing, but at that mileage, it’s less likely unless it's been really pushed hard. Given the hybrid system and the potential for timing issues, I'd really recommend getting it checked by a workshop. You don't want to risk further damage.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to the shop, and you were right. It was the crankshaft sensor, and the reference value was off. They replaced it, and it cost me about 340€. Runs perfectly now. Cheers!
