Espace diesel particulate filter issue

Thank you for the detailed reply. The smoke is indeed more noticeable during acceleration, especially when the engine is cold. I have not had any previous issues with DPF regeneration. If the sensor is indeed faulty, is replacement the only option? Are there any temporary measures that could be taken before replacing the sensor?

Considering the symptoms and lack of prior DPF issues, the sensor is the most likely culprit. While cleaning the sensor might offer a temporary fix, it’s generally unreliable and replacement is the recommended course of action. The ECU relies on accurate pressure readings for proper emission control and DPF regeneration. Continuing to drive with a faulty sensor can lead to further issues. I would advise getting it checked by a workshop to confirm the diagnosis and replace the sensor.

Understood. I appreciate the advice. I took it to the workshop. As you suspected, the exhaust back pressure sensor was indeed defective. The repair, including parts and labor, cost 245€. The issue has been resolved after the sensor was replaced.

Hello. The symptoms you describe certainly point towards a problem with the diesel particulate filter (DPF) system. The reduced power and smoke suggest the engine isn't burning fuel efficiently, possibly due to the DPF not regenerating properly. A faulty exhaust back pressure sensor can definitely cause this, as the engine control unit (ECU) relies on its readings to manage DPF regeneration. Have you noticed if the smoke is more prevalent during certain driving conditions? Has the car had issues with DPF regeneration before?
