Espace fuel filter heater issue
Summary of the thread
A 2000 Renault Espace diesel is experiencing reduced engine power, poor engine response, increased fuel consumption, and rough idling, with error codes indicating a fuel filter heater issue. The problem worsens in cold weather, suggesting a potential fault with the heater cable or plug. A similar case was resolved by replacing a faulty heater cable, which restored normal vehicle performance.

Yeah, you're spot on! It's definitely worse when the weather is cold, it feels like it's constantly stalling! When it's warmer you barely notice it. How did you fix it in the end? Did you have to replace the whole fuel filter or something?

I didn't get my hands dirty with it. Took it straight to the workshop. They had a look and said the heater cable was faulty. If I remember correctly the bill was around 95€ including parts and labour. A proper pain but back to normal now!

Thanks a bunch! Sounds like I need to get it to a workshop. At least now I know what to tell them to look for. Hopefully, it's just a dodgy cable like yours was. Cheers!

That sounds familiar! I have an Espace too, though I can't remember the year. Had almost the same problem last year. Engine felt like it was choking, and fuel consumption went through the roof. Error codes were a nightmare. Does it happen mostly when it's cold?
