Espace Fuel Pressure Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2000 Renault Espace with a gasoline engine is experiencing fuel delivery issues, indicated by a check engine light, stalling at idle, and power loss during acceleration. Diagnostics suggest a faulty fuel volume regulator, possibly due to a failing high-pressure pump. Error code P0089, 'Fuel Pressure Regulator 1 Performance', supports this diagnosis. The recommended solution is to replace the high-pressure fuel pump, which resolved the issue and restored normal vehicle operation.

The ECU shows error code P0089, 'Fuel Pressure Regulator 1 Performance'. I haven't checked the fuel filter yet. Could a blocked filter cause these symptoms, or is it more likely the regulator?

P0089 confirms the fuel pressure regulator issue. A clogged filter could contribute, but the 'performance' code points to the regulator itself. Given the car's age and the code, the high-pressure pump is probably failing. More tests are possible, but weigh the cost against replacement. I'd suggest a trusted shop to confirm and replace it.

Following your advice and a technician's diagnosis, the high-pressure fuel pump was indeed faulty. The replacement, including labor and parts, cost 1510€. The car is now running normally. Thanks again for your help.

Those symptoms definitely sound like a fuel pressure issue, likely the high-pressure pump as your diagnostics suggest. The check engine light, stalling, and power loss are all classic signs. Did you check the ECU for fault codes before replacing the pump? Also, check the fuel filter for blockages.
