Espace Hybrid Fault Memory Lock
Summary of the thread
A 2023 Renault Espace Hybrid displayed a 'Fault memory lock active' error at 79,641 km, likely caused by undervoltage. The issue was suspected to be related to the 12V auxiliary battery, which can trigger electronic errors in modern vehicles. The recommended solution was to visit a workshop for accurate diagnostics. The problem was resolved by replacing the auxiliary battery and clearing the error codes.

I haven't checked the 12V battery myself; I'm not confident working with hybrid systems. I didn't jump-start it or leave the lights on, either. Could undervoltage genuinely cause a fault memory lock, or is there something more sinister at play?

Undervoltage, especially in modern vehicles with extensive electronic control units (ECUs), can trigger a cascade of errors, including memory locks. Because of the relatively new car it is likely to be the 12V battery and not a faulty ECU, but I would not be sure. Given it's a hybrid and you're not comfortable, and that there is already a 'Fault memory lock active' error, I recommend visiting a workshop to run a more accurate ECU diagnostics. I'm afraid there is not much you can do yourself to fix the issue.

Thanks for confirming my fears. I appreciate the advice. I took it to the workshop, and you were right - it was indeed undervoltage! They replaced the auxiliary battery and cleared the error codes. Cost me 240€, but at least it's resolved.

A memory lock issue on a relatively new hybrid vehicle is indeed perplexing. Have you checked the 12V auxiliary battery? Sometimes, even if the main hybrid battery is fine, a weak auxiliary battery can cause all sorts of electronic gremlins. Were there any unusual electrical events recently, like a jump start or leaving the lights on for an extended period?
