Espace hybrid stalling rough idle
Summary of the thread
A 2023 Renault Espace hybrid with 190,000 km is experiencing increased fuel consumption, engine stalling at idle, and a check engine light, along with smoke during hard acceleration. The issue is suspected to be related to the air intake, specifically the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor. It is advised to have the vehicle diagnosed by a professional mechanic to confirm the problem and avoid unnecessary part replacements. The MAF sensor was identified as the cause and replaced, resolving the issues.

Thanks for the quick response! Yeah, it does feel a little rough sometimes, especially when it's cold. What's the best way to check the MAF sensor? Is it something I can do myself, or should I take it to a mechanic?

Checking it yourself is possible, but honestly, without the right tools and knowledge, you might just be poking around in the dark. If you're seeing smoke, stalling, and a check engine light, it's probably best to get it diagnosed properly. Otherwise, you might end up chasing ghosts and throwing parts at it. I'd recommend a workshop.

Thanks, I appreciate the advice. I took it to the shop, and you were spot on - it was the MAF sensor! Cost me about 365€ to get it replaced. Now it runs like new.

Sounds like your MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor might be borked. Is it running rough, like a misfire? A bad MAF can cause all sorts of havoc, like your symptoms. Think of it like your engine trying to breathe through a clogged straw.
