Espace Intermittent Start Issue

Having issues with my 2019 Renault Espace gasoline, around 112k km. Sometimes, the engine won't fire up, other times it starts then shuts off immediately. Once in a while when it does run, it runs really rough, like it's misfiring. I've checked the battery and fuel pump, but they seem fine. I suspect the ignition switch, but I want to make sure I'm not missing something obvious before I dive in too deep. Any thoughts?

Summary of the thread

A 2019 Renault Espace with 112,000 km is experiencing intermittent starting issues, where the engine sometimes won't start or runs roughly, suggesting a misfire. Initial checks of the battery and fuel pump showed no issues, leading to suspicion of the ignition switch. However, it was suggested to check the fuses, particularly those related to the ignition circuit. Upon further inspection, a blown fuse was identified as the cause, resolving the problem and avoiding unnecessary ignition coil replacement.

Sounds familiar. I had similar issues with my Espace a while back. Intermittent starts, cutting out, the whole nine yards. Have you checked the fuses? There might be one specifically for the ignition circuit, and a defective fuse can cause all sorts of weirdness. Could be worth a shot before you start tearing into the ignition switch or suspecting the ignition coil.

Thanks for the quick reply! I did a quick glance at the fuses, but I didn't really check for continuity. Do you remember which fuse it was specifically on yours? I know they can vary a bit depending on the exact trim level and options.

I honestly can't remember the exact fuse number, it was a while ago. But, yes, I would check them with a multimeter to be sure. If it's not that, then I would highly recommend taking it to a trusted workshop because ignition problems can be a real pain to diagnose without the proper tools.

Appreciate the insight! It turned out to be a blown fuse, just as you suspected. Cost me 52€ to replace it at the shop. Thanks for saving me from a potential ignition coil replacement rabbit hole!
