Espace Transmission Control Unit Defect

Hi, I have a 2023 Renault Espace hybrid with 50977 km. The transmission control unit seems to be defective. The paddle shifters won't shift, the gearbox slips, and there are grinding noises. Paddle shifters respond very slowly and the gearbox is in emergency mode, with an error code stored. Has anyone experienced something similar?

Hey! I have an Espace too, though it's a bit older. Your symptoms sound uncomfortably familiar. I had similar electronic issues with my transmission a while back. Did the problem start suddenly, or was there a gradual decline in performance? Has the error message been read out?

Thanks for the quick reply! It happened pretty suddenly. One day everything was fine, the next, it was a mess. And yes, the error message was read out; it points to the transmission control unit being defective. Any idea what that ended up costing you?

Okay, sudden onset plus error code pointing to the control unit... Yep, sounds like the same problem I had. My mechanic confirmed that the control module was faulty. Honestly, there's not much you can do yourself. I'd recommend taking it to a reputable workshop. It's probably the control unit itself, and they need special tools and software to diagnose and replace it.

Thanks a lot! I appreciate the advice. I took it to the workshop and they confirmed it was indeed the control unit. The repair will cost about 1000€.
