Espace Transmission Oil Pressure Sensor Fault

Hi, hoping someone can give me a pointer here. I've got a 2005 Renault Espace with a gasoline engine, and it's throwing up some weird transmission issues. The engine warning light keeps popping up, and sometimes the transmission light as well. I scanned the error memory, and it's showing a fault with the transmission oil pressure sensor. The gearbox is also occasionally going into emergency mode, and sometimes it feels like it's slipping or shifting really rough, almost with a grinding noise. I've checked the basics, but haven't been able to figure it out myself.

Greetings. I am familiar with the Renault Espace and its proclivities, and I have observed a similar suite of complications in vehicles exhibiting comparable design features. Specifically, the symptoms you delineate bear a striking resemblance to instances where the gearbox oil level was discovered to be insufficient. Before exploring more elaborate diagnostic procedures, it is imperative to verify the gearbox oil level using the appropriate dipstick or inspection port. Could you verify whether such inspection procedures have already been undertaken in your troubleshooting endeavors?

Thanks for the quick reply! I did have a quick look at the gearbox oil level, but to be honest, I wasn't entirely sure where to check it properly on this model. I couldn't easily find a dipstick. Do you know exactly where I should be looking for the inspection point?

The inspection point for the Renault Espace's gearbox oil level is typically situated on the side of the transmission housing itself. Regrettably, its precise emplacement is subject to nuanced variation contingent upon the specific transmission model integrated within your vehicle. Given the complexities inherent in identifying this inspection point without comprehensive technical schematics, I would, with utmost deference, suggest that you solicit the expertise of a qualified automotive technician for an exhaustive diagnostic appraisal. A competent specialist can conclusively ascertain the gearbox oil level and meticulously scrutinize the health of associated components.

Thanks for the insight. I think you're right, time to bite the bullet and get it to a workshop. Turns out the pressure sensor was indeed faulty and replacing it plus a transmission oil change (it was low!) cost me 365€. Appreciate the help!
