Essentia Engine Power Loss

My 2018 Chevrolet Essentia with a gasoline engine has 168037 kilometers and is losing power, making acceleration difficult. My OBD-II scanner shows an error, but I'm not sure what it means. I suspect a defective engine control unit (ECU), maybe the main relay. Has anyone had a similar issue with their Essentia or another Chevrolet? Any advice would be appreciated.

Summary of the thread

A 2018 Chevrolet Essentia with 168,037 kilometers is experiencing power loss and difficulty in acceleration. The owner suspects a defective engine control unit (ECU) or main relay as the cause. A similar issue in an Opel Astra was resolved by checking fuses and relays related to the ECU. After taking the Essentia to a workshop, it was confirmed that the main relay for the ECU was faulty, and the repair cost was approximately 120€.

I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra. It would lose power randomly, and it turned out to be some kind of relay problem affecting the engine management system. Like a light switch that sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. Have you checked all the fuses and relays related to the ECU? That's where I would start.

Thanks for the quick reply! The light switch analogy helps. Could you tell me which fuses and relays you checked on your Opel Astra? Were there any signs that made you check those, or was it just guessing? Any details would help me check my Essentia.

I'm not super technical. I just took it to a local mechanic after checking the main fuses in the fuse box. He used some tool and figured it out fast. It's probably best to take it to a workshop if you're not sure. They can find the problem and give you a price before doing work.

Thanks for the advice! I took my Chevrolet Essentia to a local workshop. It turned out I was right: the main relay for the ECU was bad. The repair was about 120€. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
