Estima Hybrid Overheating
Summary of the thread
A 2013 Toyota Estima hybrid was experiencing overheating issues, particularly in traffic, despite the coolant level being fine. The suspected cause was a malfunctioning electric fan, potentially due to a faulty connection. It was suggested to check the wiring and plug connection to the fan motor, as well as related fuses. Upon inspection by a repair shop, the issue was confirmed to be a defective plug connection to the fan motor, which was repaired, resolving the overheating problem.

Thanks for the tip! I'm not a mechanical whiz, but I can handle basic stuff. Where should I be looking for this 'plug' and 'wiring'? Are there any fuses related to the cooling system I could check too? I'm trying to resolve the issue myself and avoid the repair shop if possible.

Okay, so the plug will be right at the fan motor itself, usually on the back of the radiator. The wiring will run from there back into the engine bay, so trace it back and look for any breaks or corrosion. There should be a fuse box, usually under the hood or sometimes inside the car near the steering wheel. Check your owner's manual for the fuse diagram and look for anything related to the 'cooling fan' or 'radiator fan'. Honestly, if you're not comfortable poking around, get it to a workshop quickly; overheating on a hybrid can lead to expensive inverter issues!

I took your suggestion and brought it into the shop. Turns out you were spot on – a defective plug connection to the fan motor! Repair cost was 95€, so I'm counting myself lucky. The temperature gauge is no longer spiking, problem resolved.

Sounds familiar! I had a similar overheating problem with my old Peugeot 308. It was a dodgy connection to the radiator fan. Have you checked the wiring and the plug going into the fan motor itself? Might be worth a look before tearing things apart. Is the fan running at all, or is it completely dead?
