Estima reduced engine power
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Toyota Estima diesel with low mileage experienced reduced engine power and a persistent check engine light, suspected to be related to the throttle valve. Possible causes included a faulty throttle position sensor or issues with the air intake, leading to a delay in acceleration response. The problem was confirmed to be a defective throttle valve, which was replaced, resolving the issue and restoring the vehicle's performance.

Thanks for the tip. No rough idling, but there's definitely a lag when I accelerate. Could it be the accelerator pedal module itself, or maybe just the electronics inside causing the problem?

It's possible. The accelerator pedal module contains sensors that communicate with the engine control unit (ECU) to regulate the throttle valve opening. If those sensors are defective or sending incorrect signals, it will lead to a response delay. The throttle valve controls the amount of air entering the engine, so a defective sensor will throw off the air-fuel ratio and reduce power. Best to get it checked at a workshop, they can properly diagnose it.

Appreciate the advice. Took it to the workshop, and you were right; the throttle valve was indeed defective. Replacement cost me about 265€. Runs like new now!

Hey there. I had a similar issue with my Estima some time ago. Reduced power and the engine light are classic symptoms. Could be a faulty throttle position sensor, or issues with the air intake. Is the car idling rough too? Have you checked for any response delay when you press the accelerator?
