Estima Windshield Washer Heater Issue

I'm having trouble with the windshield washer heater on my 2002 Toyota Estima with a gasoline engine. It's got about 111620 km on it. I'm getting an error message, and the spray nozzles freeze in cold weather. I've checked the washer fluid and made sure it's winter-grade. I tried the fuse box, but I'm not sure which fuse is for the washer heater. Anyone else had this?

Summary of the thread

The windshield washer heater on a 2002 Toyota Estima was malfunctioning, causing the spray nozzles to freeze in cold weather. The issue was suspected to be due to a faulty connection or corrosion in the cable leading to the washer heater. After checking the washer fluid and fuse box without success, it was suggested to inspect the wiring for damage. Ultimately, a workshop confirmed corrosion on the cable connection, and the problem was resolved with a repair costing around 95€.

Sounds like a connection problem. Those year Estimas sometimes had issues with the cable or plug leading to the washer heater corroding. Before diving deeper, have you checked for obvious signs of damage to the wiring near the nozzles and the washer motor? Also, could be clogged nozzles themselves, easy to check.

Thanks for the quick reply. I visually inspected the wiring, but didn't see anything obvious. Is there a specific way to test the connection or the nozzles? I don't have much experience with auto electrics, but I'm willing to try some basic troubleshooting if you can guide me. Which part of the cable is most prone to corrosion?

Given the error code and frozen nozzles even with winter fluid, I'd still lean towards a faulty connection or the heater element itself. If you're not comfortable with electrical testing, probably best to have a workshop take a look. Could be a simple fix, but chasing electrical gremlins without proper tools can be frustrating. I sorted it out once on an old Camry, after freezing nozzles plagued me during winter driving. Washer heaters can be tricky. It might be time to visit the garage to have them check the electrical components thoroughly.

Thanks for the advice. I brought my Estima to the workshop, and they confirmed the corrosion on the cable connection as you suspected. The repair cost was around 95€, including parts and labor. Everything is working now.
