Etios exhaust pressure too low

I'm experiencing a problem with my 2021 Toyota Etios diesel. It has 163132 km on the clock. The engine warning light is on, and I've noticed a significant reduction in engine power, especially when going uphill. Additionally, there's smoke when accelerating and a strong exhaust smell. I suspect it might be related to the diesel particulate filter. I've read the error codes and it indicates that the exhaust pressure is too low. Any ideas on what could be the cause?

I had a similar issue with my Etios. Reduced power, the smell. Have you checked the exhaust back pressure sensor? That was the culprit for me. Those sensors can be quite temperamental, especially with age and mileage.

Thanks for the quick response. Where exactly is that sensor located and is there any way to test it before replacing it? I have a multimeter, so if you know of any procedure, I could give it a shot.

Location varies a bit depending on the exact engine version, but it's usually near the DPF, somewhere along the exhaust line. Honestly, testing it properly requires some specialized tools to simulate exhaust pressure. Best bet is probably to take it to a workshop. They'll diagnose it properly and tell you for sure.

Took your advice and went to the workshop. The exhaust back pressure sensor was defective, as suspected. Repair cost 245€ including the sensor and labor. Runs like new again. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
