Etios Intermittent Starting Issue

My 2014 Toyota Etios gasoline engine has an odd issue. Sometimes it won't start when I turn the key. Other times, it starts, but shuts off after a few seconds. And then there are times it just runs really rough. Mileage is 140747 km. Dashboard lights seem normal. Could this be the ignition switch? Is there a fuse for that?

That sounds frustrating! I had a similar problem with my old Renault Megane a few years back. The symptoms were almost identical – sometimes it would start, sometimes it wouldn't, and when it did, it ran like garbage. It drove me nuts trying to figure it out. I also suspected the ignition coil and other car electronics.

Wow, that sounds very similar. What did it end up being on your Megane? Did you have to replace the entire ignition switch, or was it something simpler?

Turns out, it was a defective fuse. The mechanic told me that the fuse was causing intermittent power to the ignition system. It was a cheap fix, thank goodness! But honestly, after all the stress, I would suggest taking your Etios to a trusted workshop. They'll diagnose it properly and save you a lot of time and worry.

Okay, thank you for the advice! I took the car to the workshop. You were right; it was a defective fuse related to the ignition system. The repair cost me 52€. I appreciate you sharing your experience!
