Etios transmission issues
Summary of the thread
A 2014 Toyota Etios with 175,033 km is experiencing transmission issues, including an engine warning light, emergency mode activation, slipping, unclean shifting, and grinding noises. The error memory indicates a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor. The core problem is identified as a low gearbox oil level, which led to sensor damage. The suggested solution is to check and refill the transmission fluid, and a workshop visit confirmed this diagnosis, resulting in a repair.

It seems more pronounced when the engine is warm, actually. I haven't checked the fluid level myself yet, I was hoping to get some insight before diving in. Could it really cause all these symptoms?

Yeah, mine was worse when warm too. Low fluid definitely can cause those symptoms, especially the slipping and rough shifting. It's worth checking, but honestly, I'd recommend getting it to a workshop. They'll diagnose it properly. Could be a sensor issue too, but better safe than sorry.

Appreciate the advice. Took it to a shop; you were right, low gearbox oil was the issue, which damaged the temperature sensor. It cost me 365€ for the transmission repair. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Sounds familiar! I had similar issues with my Etios. Is it consistently rough shifting, or only when the engine is cold? Did you check the transmission fluid level and condition?
