Evalia Jerking Acceleration Check Engine

My 2015 Nissan Evalia diesel is jerking when accelerating, the check engine light is on, and engine power is reduced. I also get rough engine running, a strong exhaust smell, and the engine sometimes stalls. Error codes are stored. I suspect an intake manifold leak due to scorching. Has anyone experienced something similar?

Summary of the thread

A 2015 Nissan Evalia diesel is experiencing jerking during acceleration, a check engine light, reduced engine power, rough running, a strong exhaust smell, and occasional stalling. The suspected cause is an intake manifold leak due to scorching, similar to a previous case with a Renault Scenic where heat and age caused manifold damage and vacuum leaks. The recommended solution is to have the intake manifold inspected and potentially replaced by a workshop to prevent further damage.

Sounds frustrating! I had a similar experience with my old Renault Scenic. Different brand, but the symptoms were almost identical: jerking, check engine light, reduced power, the works. Turned out to be a massive vacuum leak in the intake manifold. The rubber seals had perished and it was causing all sorts of engine misfires. Is the smell of exhaust fumes particularly strong under the hood?

The exhaust smell is definitely stronger than usual, especially near the engine. So, the problem with your Renault Scenic was also in the intake manifold? What was the root cause, and did you manage to fix it yourself?

Yep, intake manifold was the culprit. The root cause was heat and age causing the manifold to scorch and crack. The seals went bad too, creating that vacuum leak. I tried a temporary fix with some sealant, but it didn't hold for long. Eventually, I had to get the whole manifold replaced. Given your symptoms and the error codes, I'd say get it checked by a workshop. Continuing to drive it like that might cause further damage. It cost me around 1180€ to get it fixed, parts and labor included. Don't ignore it!

Thanks for the detailed info and the reality check. I appreciate you sharing your experience with the Renault. I'll take your advice and get it to a workshop ASAP. The intake manifold was indeed defective, exactly as I suspected. I've approved the repair, which will cost me around 1180€.
