Evalia Transmission Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2014 Nissan Evalia diesel with 97,000 km is experiencing transmission issues, indicated by the check engine and transmission lights, gear slipping, unclean shifts, and occasional grinding noises. An OBD2 scanner detected an error, suggesting a potential problem with the automatic transmission. A common cause for these symptoms is a defective torque converter lock-up clutch. It is recommended to seek professional evaluation to confirm the issue and prevent further damage.

Thanks for the quick response. You mentioned the torque converter lock-up clutch. Is there any way to confirm that's the specific issue before I take it to a shop? I'm trying to avoid unnecessary repairs but also don't want to cause further damage by driving it.

Without specialized diagnostic equipment, it is difficult to definitively confirm a faulty torque converter lock-up clutch. However, given the confluence of symptoms and the stored error code, this remains the most probable cause. Continued operation under these conditions may result in accelerated wear and consequential damage to the transmission. Professional evaluation is advisable.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a local garage as suggested, and they confirmed it was the torque converter. Ended up costing me 2120€ to get it repaired, but it's driving like new again. Appreciate your help!

The symptoms you describe – check engine light, transmission indicator, shifting issues, grinding noises, and stored error codes – strongly suggest a potential problem with the automatic transmission. Based on similar cases, a defective torque converter lock-up clutch is a common culprit. High torque demand or frequent gear changes tend to exacerbate this condition.
