Evanda Camshaft Sensor Error

Hi. My 2003 Chevrolet Evanda with a gasoline engine is starting poorly, and the engine stalls sometimes when idling. It's got about 90k km on it. Plus, the check engine light is on. I scanned it, and it's showing a camshaft sensor error. I've read that the encoder wheel on the camshafts can be defective. Has anyone experienced this?

Summary of the thread

A 2003 Chevrolet Evanda is experiencing poor starting, stalling when idling, and a check engine light indicating a camshaft sensor error. The issue may be linked to a defective encoder wheel on the camshafts. Cleaning the sensor might not resolve the problem, and taking the car to a workshop for professional repair is recommended.

Sounds familiar! I've got an Evanda too, and I had similar symptoms a while back. Engine misfire? Was it rough, especially when cold?

Yeah, it's definitely rough, especially when it's cold. Did the camshaft sensor error also point to the encoder wheel in your case?

SchmittRacer

Yep, exactly the same. I tried cleaning the sensor first, but no luck. Eventually, I just took it to a workshop. Saved myself a lot of headache that way!

Thanks for the info! I suspected as much. I'll book it in at a local workshop and get it sorted. The repair cost 695€, but now the car runs like new.
