Everest automatic transmission issue

Hi, my 2009 Ford Everest, gasoline engine, sometimes won't start, and the check engine light is on. I've noticed some rough shifting too. My code reader shows an error, and I suspect it might be related to the parking position of the automatic transmission. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

Sounds familiar. I had a similar issue with my old Opel Astra, although it was a manual. The engine wouldn't start, and it turned out to be a faulty transmission sensor. Have you checked the transmission sensor or the shift lock? It might also be worth looking at the neutral position switch and the gear linkage.

Thanks for the insight! Where exactly is the transmission sensor located on the Everest? And is it something I can check myself without special tools? I'm not a mechanic, but I'm decent with tools and instructions.

Honestly, I'm not sure about the exact location on your Everest. On my Astra, it was a pain to get to, and I ended up taking it to a workshop. Considering the Everest has an automatic and the symptoms you described, it might be a defective control unit. Given the 'gearbox slips' symptom and error code, I would advise against DIY and would highly recommend having a professional take a look. It could save you money in the long run.

Thanks for confirming my worries. I'll take it to a trusted workshop nearby for professional diagnostics and repairs. They said it might be a defective control unit, and the repair might cost around 1000€. Hopefully, it's just that! Thanks again for your help!
