Everest auxiliary heater problem

Auxiliary heater on my 2003 Ford Everest (gasoline engine) isn't switching on. Error memory shows an error. Any ideas? It's freezing!

Summary of the thread

The auxiliary heater on a 2003 Ford Everest isn't switching on, and an error is indicated in the memory. A faint smell of unburnt fuel suggests a potential issue with the glow plug. It is recommended to have a workshop diagnose and replace the glow plug if necessary, as accessing it can be challenging without the right tools and expertise.

I had a similar issue with my Everest. Does it smell a bit weird when you try to turn it on, kind of like unburnt fuel? If so, I'd be looking at the glow plug. Have you checked that?

Yeah, I think I noticed a faint smell the other day. How difficult is it to check the glow plug myself? I'm not exactly a mechanic, but I can usually manage basic stuff.

Honestly, on the Everest, it's a bit of a pain to get to. You might be able to manage, but you'll need some specific tools and a bit of patience. My advice would be to take it to a workshop. They'll diagnose it properly and replace the glow plug if that's the problem.

Sounds like I'll be booking it in for a check-up then. I took it to the shop and, you were right, the glow plug was defective. Cost me 440€ to get it sorted. Thanks again for the help!
