Everest Engine Stalling At Idle

Hi, I've got a 2010 Ford Everest, diesel engine, with about 157,000 km on the clock. Lately, the check engine light has been coming on, and the engine occasionally stalls at idle. I'm suspecting it might be related to the tank ventilation, any ideas?

Summary of the thread

A 2010 Ford Everest with a diesel engine was experiencing engine stalling at idle and a check engine light. The issue was suspected to be related to the tank ventilation system. Possible causes included a malfunctioning pressure sensor, purge valve, or clogged hoses in the emission system. After inspection and repair at a workshop, it was confirmed that clogged hoses in the tank ventilation valve were the problem, and the issue was resolved.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Could be a few things. When the tank ventilation isn't working right, it can mess with the fuel-air mixture. Have you checked the pressure sensor or purge valve? Clogged hoses in the emission system are pretty common, too. Does it happen more when the fuel tank is full, or does it seem random? Also, have you tried a new gas cap?

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't checked the pressure sensor or purge valve specifically. Where are those usually located, and is it something I can easily inspect myself, or do I need special tools? I don't see any correlation with how full the tank is. The gas cap is also original, could that really be the culprit?

The pressure sensor is often near the fuel tank, while the purge valve is usually in the engine bay. You can visually inspect the hoses for cracks, but testing the sensor often requires a multimeter. Given the stalling issue, and that it isn't gas cap related, I'd recommend taking it to a workshop. They can properly diagnose the whole emission system.

Thanks a lot! I appreciate the advice. Took it to the shop, and you were right, it was the tank ventilation valve – the hoses were indeed clogged. Cost me 175€ to get it sorted. Runs perfectly now!
