Everest Key Battery Low Warning

I'm experiencing a frustrating issue with my 2007 Ford Everest, gasoline engine. A persistent 'key battery low' warning has appeared. The keyless access has completely stopped working, and the OBD reader says there's an error stored in memory. Unlocking or locking the doors remotely is also failing. I suspect the key fob battery. Has anyone else encountered this?

I had something similar happen with my Everest. Keyless entry became intermittent, then stopped altogether. The range for remote locking/unlocking also diminished. Sounds like your key fob battery is the most likely suspect. Have you tried swapping the battery?

Thanks for the quick response! Just to be sure, did your error memory also show a fault related to the key? I'm trying to avoid unnecessary repairs, but the error memory also lists a fault related to the power door lock module. Did the battery replacement fix it completely, or did you end up needing further work?

Yes, I did see an error related to the key fob. From what you're describing, it sounds like the same problem. I'd strongly suggest starting with the battery replacement in the key fob, as it's the simplest and cheapest fix. If that doesn't resolve the issue entirely, then investigating the power door lock module would be the next logical step. However, in my case, a new battery did the trick, but I remember that the workshop charged me 37€ for it! Outrageous!

Thank you so much! I really appreciate the advice and confirmation that it's likely the battery. I'll start there and hope for the best! I'll post again when I have replaced the battery.
