Excursion Fog Sensor Error

Hey, I'm having a weird issue with my 2005 Ford Excursion with the gasoline engine. The dashboard is showing a fog sensor error. My AC won't kick on, the windshield washer sprayers are frozen even when it's not that cold, and the mirrors won't heat up. It's got about 202999 km on it. Anyone seen anything like this before? Is it all connected?

Summary of the thread

The 2005 Ford Excursion was experiencing a fog sensor error, leading to multiple system failures, including the AC, windshield washer, and heated mirrors. The issue was likely due to a faulty wire or connection related to the fog sensor, which affects the climate control system. After inspecting the connections, the problem was confirmed to be a faulty wire to the fog sensor, which was repaired, resolving the issue.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Greetings. The symptoms you describe, combined with the fog sensor error, do indeed suggest a potential link. The fact that seemingly unrelated systems are failing simultaneously points towards a central component or connection issue. A faulty cable or a defective plug connection associated with the fog sensor could very well be the culprit. The fog sensor often communicates with the climate control system, which in turn affects the AC, mirror heating, and even the windshield washer system in some vehicles.

So, you think it's the sensor itself, or just a loose wire? Is there any way to test that without special tools?

While the sensor itself could be the issue, a loose or corroded connection is the more probable cause, given the cascade of failures you're experiencing. Think of it like a power strip with a loose plug – one bad connection can knock out everything plugged into it. Testing sensor output usually requires a multimeter, but visually inspecting the wiring and connectors for corrosion or damage is a good first step. Given the complexity and the potential impact on multiple systems, professional diagnostics at a workshop is advisable.

Thanks for the info! I checked all the connections I could find, and everything looked okay, so I ended up taking it to the shop. Turns out a wire going to the fog sensor was indeed faulty. They fixed it for 95€. Everything's working again!
