Excursion headlight range control issue
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Ford Excursion owner experienced a headlight range control issue, with the low beams pointing incorrectly and a warning light on the speedometer. The problem was suspected to be a defective servomotor in the headlight. After considering potential causes like loose or corroded electrical connectors, the issue was confirmed to be the servomotor, which was replaced to resolve the problem.

Good call on the connectors. I'll give them a look. When you say 'similar issue', did yours also involve the lights pointing in the wrong direction or was it just the warning light?

Okay, so with my BMW, the lights were actually pointing slightly downwards all the time, regardless of the road conditions. That's why I was skeptical. I think you might need professional help, so I ended up taking it to a workshop because the repair was very complex. But checking those connectors as you mentioned is the right thing to do!

Thanks for the insight. It turned out to be exactly what I suspected: a defective servomotor. Shop confirmed it and replaced the unit. Painful 1040€ later, everything's back to normal.

Wow, that sounds frustrating! I had a similar issue with my old BMW 3 Series a few years back. It started with the adaptive headlight system throwing errors. By 'adaptive' I mean the lights turn slightly when you steer the car. In my case, it was also related to the light intensity and auto-leveling system. Have you checked the electrical connectors to the headlight assembly? Sometimes, a loose or corroded connector can cause all sorts of weird issues with the range control and beam adjustment.
