Excursion warning light and smoke

I've got a 2005 Ford Excursion with a diesel engine and 202691 km on the clock. Lately, the warning light in the speedometer has been on, and I've noticed some smoke when accelerating. Also, the DPF won't regenerate. Could this be the exhaust back pressure sensor?

Sounds familiar! I had similar issues with my Excursion. Is it running rough? Could very well be that exhaust back pressure sensor. They're notorious for causing havoc with the emissions system. Have you checked for any obvious damage to the sensor or the wiring?

Not really running rough, just the light and the smoke. Where exactly is the sensor located? And what kind of damage should I be looking for?

Okay, no rough running is good news, or at least less bad news! The sensor is usually somewhere on the exhaust manifold or the pipe leading to it, but honestly, they can be a pain to get to depending on your setup. Look for cracked hoses, melted wires, or anything obviously broken. But you know what? Save yourself the headache and just get it checked out by a pro. My sensor went bad, and it messed with all sorts of things. Cost me 245€ in the end.

Thanks for the advice. I'll take it to a workshop and have them check the exhaust back pressure sensor. Hopefully, that's the issue.
