Exhaust odor and DPF regeneration error in BMW 5 - What to do?

I have a problem with my BMW 5. There is a strong exhaust smell in the interior and the exhaust seems to be leaking. In addition, my car shows a DPF regeneration error. Has anyone had similar experiences and can help me solve these problems?

Summary of the thread

A BMW 5 owner reports a strong exhaust smell inside the car and a DPF regeneration error. The exhaust odor might be due to a leak in the exhaust system, potentially near the twin turbo, and should be inspected for damage. The DPF error could be caused by a clogged filter, possibly from frequent short trips, and may require a longer drive to regenerate. If these issues persist, consulting a professional mechanic is advised due to the potential dangers of exhaust leaks.

It sounds like you might have a couple of issues going on. The strong exhaust smell could be due to a leak in your exhaust system. I would recommend checking the exhaust pipes and joints for any signs of damage or leaks. The DPF regeneration error could be due to a clogged DPF filter. This can happen if the car is mostly driven for short distances. You might need to take a longer drive at higher speeds to allow the DPF to regenerate. However, these are just initial checks. If the problem persists, I would strongly recommend taking your car to a professional mechanic, especially since exhaust leaks can be dangerous due to the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning. Please let us know how you get on with these checks. Do you have any other questions?

I have not found any leaks in the exhaust system and the DPF filter regenerates normally, but it is 49 percent loaded with ash. Exhaust gases occur near the twin turbo
