Exhaust odor problem and check engine light on on BMW X2 Diesel
Hi everyone, I own a 2019 BMW X2 with a diesel engine and 109,000 km. I have a problem with a smell like exhaust fumes coming from the interior air vents. After an analysis, my mechanic identified the DPF as the cause, being full (approximately 29 cm3). We attempted a forced regeneration, but without success, so we opted for a filter wash. After the wash, the smell decreased, but the engine warning light came on. The diagnosis indicates a problem with the exhaust sensor. Despite this, the car has never lost performance or emitted black smoke. The particles dropped to 19 after the wash, but the smell persists. The mechanic recommended bypassing the DPF, but I'm unsure. Has anyone had similar experiences? How did you solve it? Thanks.

It's important to address the exhaust smell as it can be a safety concern. Before considering bypassing the DPF, which may not be legal or advisable, check for any exhaust leaks, especially around the exhaust manifold or connections near the cabin air intake. These leaks can cause fumes to enter the cabin. Also, inspect the exhaust sensor wiring and connections, as a faulty sensor can affect DPF regeneration. Let me know if you find anything or if you have further questions!
