Exhaust Troubles and Power Loss in 2018 Seat Tarraco: Seeking Advice

Hey folks, I've got some issues with my 2018 Seat Tarraco, running on gas with about 117k on the clock. It's been emitting black smoke on acceleration, throwing up the check engine light, and losing power. I've got an exhaust leak and a potent exhaust smell too. Had a rough patch with my previous mechanic, so a bit wary here. My hunch is it might be an Exhaust aftertreatment malfunction. Has anyone encountered similar problems? How'd your mechanic handle it and what was your experience like? Any feedback would be much appreciated!

Hey, I reckon you hit the nail on the head with your diagnosis. It does sound like an exhaust aftertreatment malfunction to me, too. Just faced something similar with my 2015 Seat Leon not long ago. Turned out it was one of the lambda sensors acting up—the symptoms you mentioned are pretty similar to what I experienced. I'd been noticing some black smoke and lousy acceleration, much like you, and returned to the garage where I'd have my Seat regularly checked. They hooked up the car to their gear and confirmed it was indeed a faulty lambda sensor. They had to replace it to sort the issue. It ain't a breeze, but not a catastrophic blow either. Replacing the sensor itself helped clear the check engine light and the performance issue. However, they also had to work on the exhaust leak and get rid of the potent smell. Needed a bit of elbow grease, but gotta say they handled it well. So, yeah, my advice is to find a well-rated garage with some proper technicians and let them look into it. It might be a bit tricky and time-consuming but they should be able to diagnose and fix it. Keep us posted, won't you? Safe driving!

Hey, Really had my fingers crossed it wouldn't be something major. Sure does sound like we had a similar ride! I'm just curious, do you remember how much the whole deal set you back? And everything's been smooth sailing for you since then, right? No other problems creep up? Thanks for your insight, appreciate it!

Hey there! Yeah, I had my fingers crossed too when my Seat was acting up. Anyway, the total cost to fix the lambda sensor issue was 375€. Once that was sorted, it helped fix the exhaust aftertreatment malfunction too. And man, you won't believe the relief when that check engine light finally turned off! As for the terrifying potent exhaust smell, that's gone as well. Seriously, feels like I've got my car's pep back now, also no black smoke or power loss anymore. It's been smooth sailing ever since. Obviously, it wasn’t exactly pocket-change, but honestly, I'd say it’s worth it for the peace of mind, you know? Hopefully, you won’t have to deal with anything else. Take care and keep us updated! Cheers!

Hey there, Phew, there's a sense of relief that it isn't going to break the bank! Good to hear that you've had no further problems after the sensor change. Guess it's time for me to stop fretting and find a decent garage that can do the job right. A silent check engine light, no black smoke, and no exhaust smell are all I'm dreaming of right now! Thanks for the advice. Really needed it! Will definitely keep you posted. Take care and happy driving!
