Expedition Active Hood Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2021 Ford Expedition is experiencing an "Active hood fault" message and a constantly illuminated airbag light. This issue may be linked to the vehicle's pedestrian safety system, which is designed to activate the hood in a collision. A similar case was resolved by replacing a defective acceleration sensor, suggesting this could be the root cause. It is recommended to have the vehicle inspected by a professional to confirm and address the issue.

No bumps that I know of! That's what's so strange. It just started happening out of the blue. When you say similar, do you mean the exact same symptoms? The message, the airbag light, and the error code?

Yes, the exact same symptoms. In my case, after the fault occurred, the error memory contained an error indicating that the acceleration sensor was defective. I'd recommend getting it checked by a workshop; it could be a faulty sensor as the root cause. For me, the repair cost was around 315€.

Thanks so much for the info! I'll definitely get it checked out. Knowing it's likely the acceleration sensor and what it cost you is a huge help. I really appreciate it!

I had a similar issue on my Expedition a while back. The active hood system is part of the pedestrian safety system, designed to pop the hood in a collision. Are you sure you haven't had a minor bump or anything that could have triggered it?
