Expedition cruise control issue

Hey, I'm having a weird issue with my 2000 Ford Expedition (gas engine). The cruise control just stopped working. The light doesn't even come on when I press the button. I hooked it up to a code reader and it shows an error related to the cruise control system, but nothing specific. I've checked the obvious stuff like the fuse for the cruise control, and it seems fine. I've also visually inspected the wires around the steering wheel and brake pedal, but didn't see anything obviously disconnected. Any ideas what could be causing this? I'm at 200900 km, if that matters.

Dude, that sucks! I had a similar problem with my old 2008 Subaru Outback. The cruise control just died one day. I'm no mechanic, but I remember reading somewhere that it could be a problem with the brake light switch. Apparently, if that switch is faulty, it can disable the cruise control as a safety measure. The brake light switch is located near the brake pedal. The cruise control system needs a working speed sensor and other components to function correctly, so if one part is not working, the whole system might fail. Have you checked if your brake lights are working properly?

Interesting! I hadn't thought about the brake lights. So, if the brake light switch is bad, even if the lights still work, it could still mess with the cruise control? Is there any way to test the switch itself? I've also heard about the pedal switch being faulty. Is this a different switch than the brake light switch?

Yeah, even if the brake lights seem to work, the switch itself could be sending a faulty signal. In my case with the Subaru, I never really got to test anything myself, but my mechanic checked it and said the signal was inconsistent. The pedal switch and the brake light switch may be the same thing, depending on your car's setup, but they’re close to each other, so it might be worth checking both. Honestly, I just took it to my local shop and they sorted it out pretty quick. It’s probably worth getting a professional to take a look. Cruise control issues can be a pain to diagnose.

Okay, thanks for the advice! I appreciate you sharing your experience. I took it to a local mechanic, and you were right – it was a bad connection on one of the components of the system! They said the cable or plug connection was defective. They fixed it for 95€, and now the cruise control is working again!
