Expedition Fog Sensor Issues

I have a perplexing problem with my 2002 Ford Expedition with a gasoline engine. It only has 20474 kilometers on it. I suspect the fog sensor. An error code is persistently stored. The AC won't engage, the windshield spray nozzles are frozen, and the mirror heating is non-functional. Diagnostics suggest a potential defect in the cable or plug connection. Has anyone encountered similar issues?

Summary of the thread

The 2002 Ford Expedition is experiencing issues with the AC, windshield spray nozzles, and mirror heating, potentially linked to a fog sensor error code. Diagnostics suggest a defect in the cable or plug connection, possibly due to corrosion or damage in the wiring harness. A targeted inspection near the firewall, where road salt and grime may accumulate, is recommended. If unresolved, visiting a service center is advised.

Interesting. I had something vaguely similar happen with my old '08 Volvo XC70. Not the frozen spray nozzles, since that was usually a fuse issue, but the climate control acting up and throwing weird codes. In my case, the mirror heating also decided to take a vacation. Was the error code you pulled specific to the fog sensor, or was it more generic? And did you check the wiring harness for any obvious signs of damage or corrosion? I know it's a pain, but sometimes it's the simplest things that cause the biggest headaches.

The error code points directly to the fog sensor circuit. I confess my wiring harness examination was rather cursory. Given your experience with the Volvo, could you elaborate on the specific areas of the harness that proved most vulnerable to corrosion or damage? A more targeted inspection might prove fruitful.

Okay, if it's a specific fog sensor code, then we're probably on the right track. With my Volvo, the gremlins were hiding near the firewall, where the harness made a sharp bend. Road salt and grime loved to collect there, causing all sorts of havoc. Considering your Expedition's age, I'd definitely give that area a thorough look, as well as any connectors near the sensor itself. If you are not able to locate the issue I would suggest visiting a workshop.

I will meticulously inspect the wiring harness in the vicinity of the firewall, thanks to your suggestions. While I had hoped to resolve this independently, I have scheduled an appointment with a reputable service center because I'm worried about further complications. The estimated repair cost, including parts and labor, is approximately 95€.
