Expedition mirror heating issue
Summary of the thread
A 2003 Ford Expedition has a mirror heating issue where the mirrors do not heat up, and an error code is present. The problem is suspected to be a bad connection, possibly involving the Local Interconnect Network (LIN) bus, which controls mirror heating. A defective cable or plug connection is likely the cause. It is suggested to perform a multimeter test on the mirror's power supply or visit a trusted shop for diagnosis and repair.

LIN bus? Can you dumb that down a bit? I'm not sure I follow. Also, any ideas how hard is it to check the cable or plug connection myself?

Certainly. The Local Interconnect Network (LIN) bus is a serial communication system often used for less critical automotive components like mirror heating. However, based on your initial error, a multimeter test on the mirror's power supply would suffice, but I always recommend visiting a trusted shop. I went to the workshop to solve the problem on my Volvo.

Thanks for the info! Sounds like a trip to the shop is in order. They quoted me around 95€, so I'll get it sorted.

I had a similar issue with my 2018 Volvo XC60. Mirror heating also failed, and the diagnostic tool reported an open circuit. Are you familiar with the vehicle's LIN bus architecture? Mirror heating typically uses the LIN bus for temperature control, but given the error, a defective cable or plug connection of the component is the most probable cause.
