Expedition Tailgate Hall Sensor Error

My 2004 Ford Expedition with a gasoline engine has an automatic tailgate fault. It doesn't open completely, and I'm getting a tailgate hall sensor error. I suspect a defective cable or plug. I've checked the hinge wiring harness. Has anyone else seen this?

Hey, I had something similar with my Expedition, though I didn't check the error codes. The tailgate would only open halfway. Super annoying, especially when loading groceries! Did you check the sensor wiring itself? It's a pain to get to, but that might be the culprit.

Thanks! When you say 'sensor wiring itself,' do you mean at the sensor connector near the tailgate motor, or further upstream within the tailgate itself? I'm trying to avoid disassembling the entire tailgate if possible.

Yeah, I meant right at the motor. Honestly, fiddling with it was a headache. I just took it to a shop. They replaced the hall sensor and wiring and that fixed it. So maybe just go to the workshop?

Understood. Given your experience, I'll skip troubleshooting and visit a workshop. The projected repair cost is around 95€, which is what I expected. Thanks!
