Expert Electric Steering Fault

I have a 2020 Peugeot Expert, diesel engine, with about 71000 km. The electric steering column adjustment has stopped working. The error memory has a fault, and the steering column can no longer be adjusted electrically. I suspect a simple mechanical fault, maybe a wire or plug. Any ideas where to start?

I had a similar issue on my 2018 Volvo XC60. The symptoms sound the same: error message and no adjustment. Steering column adjustment is achieved via an electric motor, which receives instructions via the car's computer (ECU). In my case, it was a faulty connection. Have you checked all the fuses related to the steering system? That's always the first place to look.

Thanks for the quick reply! Fuses are a good idea. I'll check those first thing tomorrow. Where exactly did you find the faulty connection on your Volvo? Was it hard to get to? I'm trying to avoid a huge bill if it's something I can fix myself.

On the Volvo, it was behind the steering wheel, near the adjustment motor. Accessing components near the steering wheel requires caution due to the airbag. The Peugeot Expert's design differs from the Volvo XC60, so I'd strongly recommend having a workshop diagnose the wiring harness connections. Messing with the airbag or steering column can be dangerous.

Okay, thanks a lot for the advice. I checked the fuses, and they seem fine. I think you're right; it's best to let a professional handle this one, with the airbag and all. I took it to the workshop; the mechanic confirmed a defective plug connection. Repair cost me 95€. Steering works again!
