Explorer ABS TPMS and Steering Issues

Good point! I didn't actually check the individual tire sensor readings, just the overall pressure with my gauge. How would a faulty sensor cause the steering and ABS to act up like that?

Okay, so if a sensor is sending incorrect info – say, it thinks a tire is flat when it isn't – the car might try to compensate by adjusting brake force on individual wheels (hence the ABS) and potentially reducing power steering assist to ‘save energy’ or ‘improve control’ in what it thinks is a dangerous situation. However, given the shaking, it could indicate a defective valve in the tire. You're getting multiple system errors and that mileage hints at components starting to fail. I'd suggest getting it to a workshop pronto. Let them hook it up to a proper diagnostic computer. Could be a faulty TPMS sensor, could be something even more complex and a pain to diagnose without the right tools.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to the shop, and you were right. It was a valve in the tire which was defective and caused a slow air leak. They replaced the valve, recalibrated the TPMS, and everything is back to normal now. Cost me around 280€.

Whoa, that's more than just a low tire! The ABS light and steering issues point to something bigger. Since your tire pressures are good, it's unlikely to be a simple flat. The tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) uses sensors in the tires, right? Given your symptoms, maybe one of those sensors is malfunctioning and feeding bad data into the car's computer, which is then messing with the ABS and power steering. Did you check if the tire pressure sensor reading on the dash matched your physical gauge?
