Explorer AC failure

AC completely stopped working on my 2002 Ford Explorer with a gasoline engine. It's blowing warm air, and I don't even hear the compressor kick on anymore. I've checked the fuses, and they seem fine. It has 228209 km. Could it be a refrigerant leak, or something more serious, like a bad compressor?

I had a similar issue with my Explorer’s AC not too long ago. It started with the AC getting less efficient, and eventually, it just quit. Did you notice any strange noises before it stopped working, like a hissing sound? It could be a defective valve. Those can fail over time.

Thanks for the reply! I didn't notice any hissing sounds, but now that you mention it, I did hear a faint clicking sound a few times before it completely gave out. What was the final diagnosis for your AC problem, and was it expensive to fix?

The clicking sound might indicate a faulty valve, as I suspected. Unfortunately, it wasn't a cheap fix for me. The mechanic confirmed it was a valve issue, and the entire system needed some work. I'd recommend taking it to a professional for a proper AC diagnostics test. They can pinpoint the exact problem and give you an accurate repair estimate.

Thanks so much for your help! I'll take it to a local workshop. I will post the final diagnostic when I have it, but it looks like it will cost me around 1000€. Thanks again!
