Explorer electrical glitches

My 2020 Ford Explorer with a hybrid engine is throwing weird errors. I'm getting an error message right in the speedometer, plus the error memory is full of codes. The battery seems super weak when I try to start it, and I'm noticing general electrical glitches. I suspect it's the auxiliary battery not charging properly. Has anyone else experienced this?

I had a similar issue with my Explorer, although I can't remember the exact year. Those error messages and the weak starts sound very familiar. Did you check the voltage on the auxiliary battery when the engine is running? It should be charging. If it's not, the issue could be the charging circuit itself, not necessarily the battery. Have you tried testing the alternator output?

Good call! I haven't checked the alternator output specifically. Where exactly is the auxiliary battery located in your Explorer? And what voltage readings should I be looking for, both when the engine's off and when it's running?

Honestly, I can't remember the exact location of the battery, it was a while ago. I just remember it being a pain to get to. As for voltage, you should see around 12.6V with the engine off, and 13.7-14.7V with it running. If it's significantly lower than that while running, the charging system isn't working properly. I'd recommend taking it to a workshop; they can diagnose the charging system properly.

Thanks a million for the insight! I took it to the shop and, yep, you were right on the money. Turns out the auxiliary battery wasn't charging, and it needed replacement. Cost me 290€, but at least the Explorer is back to its old self. Appreciate the help!
