Thanks! The warning light illuminates immediately upon starting. And yes, now that you mention it, there was a faint grinding noise from the rear, just before the parking brake stopped working. Does this change your thoughts?

The immediate warning light and the grinding noise definitely point towards a problem with the electric motor in the brake calliper. It's quite possible that the motor is defective. Further DIY brake diagnostics could be difficult without specialized tools. Given the potential safety implications, I'd advise having a workshop take a look ASAP.

Thanks so much for the insight! It confirmed my suspicions. I took it to the workshop, and you were spot on! The electric motor in the brake calliper was indeed defective. The repair cost me approximately 505€. I appreciate your help!

That sounds frustrating! I've heard of similar issues. Does the warning light come on immediately when you start the car, or only after driving? Any unusual noises from the rear wheels when you try to engage or disengage the parking brake?
