Explorer Hybrid transmission issues

Hi, I'm having issues with my 2021 Ford Explorer Hybrid, around 27924 km on it. I suspect the transmission control unit is defective. Symptoms include shifting not possible via paddle shifters, gearbox slipping/shifting uncleanly, grinding noises when shifting, slow paddle response, and the gearbox sometimes going into emergency mode. There's also an error stored. Has anyone experienced something similar?

Hey, I have an Explorer too (not sure about the year, I'd have to check). The symptoms you're describing sound awfully familiar. I had something similar happen last year. I don't use the paddle shifters a lot, but I did notice the slipping and the grinding – especially when the car was cold. Did you notice if it's worse under certain conditions?

Yes, that's exactly it! Cold starts were the worst for me, too. Emergency mode kicked in a couple of times as well, which was quite unnerving. I ended up taking it to a workshop, and they confirmed it was a fault with the control unit. I'd suggest getting yours checked out, to be on the safe side. Don't wait too long, it could get worse!

Thanks a lot for confirming my suspicions and sharing your experience. I appreciate it! I'll book an appointment with the workshop and have them diagnose the control unit. I was quoted around 1000€ for repair. Hopefully, that will fix it.
