Explorer transmission oil pressure sensor issue
Summary of the thread
A 2018 Ford Explorer is experiencing issues potentially linked to the transmission oil pressure sensor, indicated by an engine warning light and error code. The vehicle's gearbox sometimes enters emergency mode, shifts roughly, and makes grinding noises. The problem may be due to low gearbox oil levels. It is advised to have the vehicle inspected by a mechanic, as the oil level was confirmed to be low, leading to a repair cost of 365€.

It occurs regardless of engine temperature. Do you recall exactly what symptoms you experienced with your Opel, and how you determined the coolant level was the issue?

Okay, mine was mostly when the engine was cold. But yeah, same lights and jerky shifting. I found a puddle under the car one morning and the coolant reservoir was almost empty. I topped it up, and the problem went away, but then it came back, so I had to get it fixed. Given yours is doing it all the time, and it's transmission related, I'd definitely take it to a workshop ASAP.

I appreciate the advice and will schedule an appointment with a mechanic to have it inspected. The error code points to the transmission oil pressure sensor, and it turns out the gearbox oil level was indeed too low. The repair cost 365€.

Wow, that sounds rough! I had something similar happen with my old Opel Astra, but it was the coolant level. Engine light, weird shifting, the whole deal. Is it only happening when the engine is cold, or all the time? Is it a lot of oil missing, or just a little?
