Failing Audi A4 Alarm Points to Auxiliary Battery Issue

My Audi A4 2011 (189460km) has a recurring electrical issue. The error memory shows faults and the car alarm stopped working completely. I suspect an auxiliary battery problem but my last mechanic visit left me unsure about their diagnosis. Has anyone experienced similar issues with their car alarm system? Did replacing the auxiliary battery fix your problems? Looking to hear about your experience before picking a repair shop.

Had a similar situation with my Audi A6 2014 with the gasoline engine. The system diagnosis revealed multiple electrical faults, and the car alarm kept malfunctioning. After a thorough battery check, it turned out the auxiliary battery was severely degraded. The auxiliary battery specifically supports the alarm system and other security functions when the main battery is disconnected. When it fails, the car alarm becomes unreliable or stops working completely. During repair, the technician found corrosion on the battery terminals and confirmed the auxiliary battery had dropped below acceptable voltage levels. The replacement process required special programming to sync the new battery with the vehicle security system. This was a serious issue because a failing auxiliary battery can affect multiple vehicle systems beyond just the alarm. In my case, the central locking system also started showing intermittent problems before the battery was replaced. The battery alarm warnings should never be ignored as they often indicate deeper electrical system issues. After replacement, all electrical faults cleared and the car alarm system returned to normal operation. Consider getting a full electrical system inspection along with the auxiliary battery replacement.

Thanks for sharing your experience. This matches exactly what I went through. My car alarm system also went completely dead and showed those annoying battery alarm signals on the dash. I eventually got it fixed but considered several shops before choosing one. Did the electrical issues stay resolved after your repair? Just curious if anything else cropped up since then. Also, could you share what the total repair cost was? My battery check and replacement came with quite a bill due to the required programming, so it would be interesting to compare costs.

Since fixing the system diagnosis issues at the shop, all electrical problems have stayed completely resolved. The auxiliary battery alarm hasnt shown up again, and the car alarm works perfectly now. Getting the aged battery replaced was definitely the right call. The total cost came to 330 Euro, which covered both the new battery and the required programming work. This price seems to be pretty standard given the specialized nature of working with car alarm systems and auxiliary batteries. The investment was worth it since it solved all the electrical gremlins that were causing problems. Looking back, this is a common issue with these models once they age. A failing auxiliary battery tends to trigger multiple electrical faults that can be quite confusing to diagnose. Getting it fixed by a qualified shop that understands these systems is key to a lasting repair.

Thanks for the input. I finally took my car to an independent Audi specialist after getting quotes from several shops. The entire electrical issue diagnosis and repair cost me 290 Euro, which included the new auxiliary battery, programming, and a complete battery check of both batteries. The shop confirmed my suspicions about the auxiliary battery being the root cause of my car alarm problems. They found the old battery was only holding about 20% of its original capacity. The repair took about 2 hours, including all the programming work. Its been 3 weeks since the fix, and all the electrical issues have cleared up. The car alarm is working perfectly again, and those annoying fault codes havent returned. What a relief to have this sorted without breaking the bank. Really glad I took the time to research before picking a repair shop.
