Falcon engine knocking combustion

I'm experiencing an issue with my 2007 Ford Falcon (gasoline engine). The engine is exhibiting symptoms consistent with knocking combustion. Mileage is 37851 km. I'm observing reduced engine power, accompanied by jerking during acceleration. There's visible smoke emanating from the exhaust upon acceleration. The vehicle's computer has logged an error, although I haven't extracted the code. I suspect the issue might be related to deposits within the combustion chamber, potentially leading to pre-ignition. I've considered adjusting the ignition timing and experimenting with higher octane fuel, but I'm hesitant to proceed without further information. Any thoughts?

That does sound concerning. Given the symptoms you've described – reduced power, jerking, smoke, and error codes – detonation seems plausible. Could you elaborate on when these symptoms first manifested? Were there any preceding events, such as a recent fuel change or maintenance procedure, that might be relevant?

The symptoms emerged gradually over the past few weeks. I haven't made any recent changes to the fuel type, and the last maintenance was a routine oil change about a month prior. Could the oil change potentially have any connection to this?

While a connection to the oil change is less likely, the gradual onset and persistent symptoms do suggest a combustion-related issue. It is difficult to diagnose the root cause without more information and tests, but your symptoms are concerning. Considering the potential severity of engine knock, I would strongly recommend consulting with a qualified workshop to assess the engine. Continuing to drive with these symptoms could risk further damage.

Thank you for your insights. I appreciate the recommendation. I took it to a local mechanic, and as suspected, there were heavy deposits in the combustion chamber. A professional cleaning, along with some fuel system treatment, appears to have resolved the issue. Total repair cost was 425€.
