Falcon transmission issue

My 2007 Ford Falcon with a gas engine is throwing a weird code. Getting the engine light, sometimes a transmission light. Seems to be in limp mode occasionally, shifting rough, even grinding a bit. I've checked the basics, but any ideas before I dive deeper?

Rough shifting and grinding? Sounds nasty. Have you checked your transmission fluid level? Low fluid can cause all sorts of havoc with modern transmissions. It might be worth a look before you start chasing sensors.

Good thought! Where exactly would I check the transmission fluid level on this model? Is there a dipstick or some other way to access it easily? Any tips on what to look for – color, smell, etc.?

Okay, some Falcons have a dipstick under the hood, near the back of the engine. Check your owner's manual if you are unsure of the location. Color should be reddish, not dark brown or black. If it smells burnt, that's also a bad sign. Honestly, with those symptoms, and if the fluid level checks out, a faulty transmission oil temperature sensor might be the culprit. I'd suggest taking it to a workshop to get it diagnosed properly.

Appreciate the input! Turns out you were right. Fluid was okay, and the shop confirmed it was indeed the transmission oil temperature sensor. They replaced it, topped off the fluid, and all seems good now. Cost me 365€, but worth it to avoid a blown transmission.
