Fan problems in the 2016 BMW 3 Series: experiences with the rear ventilation flap

Greetings, I have a problem with my 2016 BMW 3 series gasoline with over 126,000 km on the clock. The fan doesn't seem to be working properly and I suspect it might be the rear ventilation flap. Has anyone here ever had to deal with this problem? How did it go with your mechanic? Had bad luck last time and want to be prepared now. Thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

The conversation revolves around a problem with the fan in a 2016 BMW 3 series, suspected to be caused by the rear ventilation flap. One participant shared a similar experience with their 2013 BMW 1 Series, where the rear ventilation flap was not opening and closing properly, affecting air circulation. The issue was resolved by a professional mechanic and the fan has been working perfectly since. It was suggested that the mechanic should be informed about the potential issue with the rear ventilation flap to expedite diagnosis and repair.

Hi, I recently had exactly the same problem with my 2013 BMW 1 Series. The fan wasn't working properly either. As you suspected, it was the rear ventilation flap. I went to the garage and we were able to determine that the flap was not opening and closing properly. This of course causes problems with the air circulation. This was the first time for me to have such difficulties and I would say it is definitely a serious problem that requires professional service. It's not a simple repair that you could do yourself. Maybe you can tell the mechanic that the problem could be with the rear ventilation flap, that should help him diagnose and fix the problem faster. I hope this helps you. Good luck!

Hey, thanks for your quick reply. Your experience sounds pretty similar to what I'm going through right now. Can you remember how expensive the repair was at the garage? And have you had any problems with the fan or rear ventilation flap since then? I'd be really interested as I really value my car and want to take good care of it. Thanks in advance!

Yes, the repair to the rear ventilation flap has paid off. Since the visit to the workshop, the problem has been solved and the fan is working perfectly again. No more worries about the ventilation! And as for the cost - the repair of the air conditioning control unit cost me €355. Of course, that's no mean feat, but we both know that you sometimes have to dig deeper into your pockets for quality. I hope everything goes smoothly for you too. Keep your fingers crossed!

Hey, thanks for the info. It's good to hear that the problem has been completely resolved and the fan is now working properly again. The cost is a bit high of course, but I'm willing to invest for cleanliness and maintenance of my car. I will tell the mechanic about my suspicion about the rear ventilation flap and hopefully he can diagnose the problem quickly. Thanks for your help and good wishes. See you then!

I am left with 2 codes about my raindetect and light detection. But i don’t have the option. What really matters and bothers me is live date !! Its just not correct. My BMW X1 E84 2013 1.8 sdrive 150pk idles perfectly around 650rpm but carly says its running 2300rpm more or less , not only that bit i want to know my oil or watertemp to know its health and it doesn’t show me . Now for being over 2 years client and buying a new odb reader ( because i thought it would help with the live data ) it didn’t. So i am thinking of stopping my membership. Unless you can resolve these problems. Cheers Michael B
