Faulty Air Suspension Causes A4 to Lean and Misalign

Thanks for the advice. For reference, my current mileage is 43145 KM and it was last serviced 3 months ago. After reading about your experience, I checked under the car and noticed moisture around one of the suspension components. This could indeed point to air leaks rather than a complete compressor failure. The warning lights started appearing right after driving through heavy rain last week. The diagnostic scan shows error code P1578, which according to the manual relates to the air suspension circuit. Given the timing and symptoms, the wiring issue you mentioned seems like a plausible cause. Will have the connections checked before proceeding with more extensive repairs. The load leveling problems have been consistent since they started, regardless of weather conditions. The suspension system struggles to maintain proper ride height even on short trips.

Based on that additional information, especially the moisture and error code, I am even more convinced your issue is similar to what I experienced with my A5. While my initial diagnosis focused on the wiring, the moisture you found suggests a possible combination of problems affecting the suspension system. In my case, after the initial repair, we later discovered that water had actually infiltrated the air struts through deteriorated seals. The load leveling malfunction was caused by both the wiring issue and the compromised seals. The moisture allowed corrosion to develop in the electrical connections, creating a compound problem. The complete fix for my vehicle required: Replacing the air strut seals, Repairing corroded wiring connections, Installing additional weather protection for the suspension components, Full system calibration Total repair costs came to 450 Euro, significantly more than the initial repair but less than replacing the entire suspension system. Since the fix, I have had no further issues with the load leveling or suspension performance. Given your mileage and the P1578 error code, I would recommend having both the wiring and the seals inspected. Do not wait too long, as moisture can quickly lead to more extensive damage to other suspension components.

Thanks everyone for your input. After getting my A4 checked at the shop, the diagnosis confirmed multiple issues affecting the suspension system. The technician found corroded wiring connections and damaged seals, just as suggested. The total repair bill came to 520 Euro which included: New air strut seals, Wiring harness repair, Complete system calibration, Labor costs The load leveling system is now working perfectly, and the ride height has returned to normal. No more warning lights or headlight misalignment issues. The malfunction seems to have been completely resolved. For anyone else experiencing similar air suspension problems, definitely check for moisture and have both the electrical connections and seals inspected early on. The repair costs can increase significantly if water damage spreads to other suspension components. I am relieved it did not require replacing the entire compressor or air struts. Regular maintenance and prompt attention to any suspension issues definitely helps prevent more expensive repairs down the line.

As someone with low experience working on cars, I had a similar issue with my 2018 Audi A5. The suspension system showed similar symptoms, with the ride height becoming uneven and warning lights appearing on the dash. After taking it to a workshop, they diagnosed the problem as a faulty connection in the wiring harness connecting to the air struts. The malfunction was causing the load leveling system to fail. The repair involved fixing the cable connection and performing a system reset. The total cost was 95 Euro, which was relatively reasonable compared to what I feared might be needed. Since your symptoms sound very similar, it might be worth having the electrical connections checked before replacing any major suspension components. The technician mentioned these issues are often caused by damaged wiring rather than actual air strut failure. To better assist with your specific situation, could you provide: Current mileage on your A4, When did you first notice the suspension issues, Are there any specific error codes showing, Does the malfunction occur more frequently after driving through wet conditions This information would help determine if your issue matches what I experienced or if it might be something different.
