Faulty camshaft adjustment in Ford Transit (2005): Experiences and possible solutions

Hi folks, I have a problem with my Ford Transit (built in 2005, gasoline engine). The check engine light is on, I'm noticing a loss of engine power, a rough engine running, jerking when accelerating, high fuel consumption, valve adjustment noises and strange engine noises. I suspect that it could be due to a faulty camshaft adjustment. Have any of you had similar experiences and can give me some troubleshooting tips? How did you get the problem solved in the workshop and what were your experiences? I'm really at a loss and would appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance!

Summary of the thread

A Ford Transit (2005) owner is experiencing issues such as a check engine light, loss of engine power, rough running, jerking during acceleration, high fuel consumption, and unusual engine noises. These symptoms suggest a potential problem with the camshaft adjustment. A similar case with a Ford Mondeo indicated that a defective camshaft control unit, due to worn rubber sealing rings, was the cause. The recommended solution is to have the vehicle inspected by a specialist to confirm the diagnosis and address the issue.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Hello, I had a similar problem with my Ford Mondeo (built in 2003, gasoline engine), which is basically the Transit's little brother. My car knowledge is rather modest, I only have some experience. The same symptom as yours was the reason for my visit to the garage. It turned out that the fault was caused by my camshaft control unit, which was defective due to worn rubber sealing rings. The cost of the repair for me was 1620 euros. This should also solve your problem. Can you give me more information about your vehicle? Perhaps the year of manufacture is also important. I hope my answer helps a little!

Hey, thanks for your insight! My Transit has about 95096 km on it now, and the last service was a few months ago. I thought it was a minor issue at first, but it looks like I'm in for a major repair. I just hope the cost doesn't get too high. But you're right, you can never know exactly what's wrong until you get it checked out. Thanks again!

No problem, always happy to help! With the number of kilometers, it could well be that the camshaft adjustment on your Transit has suffered some damage. Your van is already a few years old, so such things can happen from time to time. Nevertheless, it could of course be something else. I would definitely recommend going to a specialist. Hopefully you can solve the problem quickly and not too expensively. I'll keep my fingers crossed and wish you the best of luck!

Thanks for the additional advice! I'll definitely have it checked at the garage and hope it's nothing too serious. And thanks for keeping my fingers crossed, I could do with that. I'll keep you all posted! Thanks again and see you soon!
