Fiat 124 TCU Failure

Fiat 124, 2020, gasoline. I suspect a transmission control unit failure at 162126km. Symptoms: paddle shifters non-responsive, gearbox slipping, grinding noises, slow paddle response, emergency mode, and a stored error code. Likely cause: control unit. Thoughts?

Summary of the thread

The conversation centers around a suspected transmission control unit (TCU) failure in a 2020 Fiat 124 with symptoms including non-responsive paddle shifters, gearbox slipping, grinding noises, slow paddle response, emergency mode, and a stored error code. The likely cause is identified as an internal failure of the TCU. The suggested solution is to have the TCU replaced, which was confirmed by a workshop.

Grinding noises and slipping? That sounds rough. Have you checked the basics, like fluid level and condition? When was the last service?

Fluid level is fine, no visible leaks. Fluid condition looks ok, no burnt smell. Serviced 30000km ago. Anything else I should check before condemning the TCU?

Okay, those basics are covered. Given the error code and multiple symptoms, it really does sound like the TCU itself. With those symptoms, it's likely an internal failure. Probably best to get it to a workshop.

Yep, figured as much. Workshop confirmed TCU failure. Quoted 1000€ for replacement. Thanks for the sanity check.
